as art magazines go its sometimes pretty difficult for someone with my kind of particular taste to find one that’s really up
to par. and then one day i discover hi fructose. relatively new on the scene, its the lavishly disturbed lowbrow brainchild of artists annie owens and attaboy.
every page of the magazine is just alive with vivid colors and artist interviews. there are advertisements but not so many as other art mags out there…. and once again….every page of the magazine is absolutely alive and kicking. big, detailed images from a wide array of low brow artist portfolios. after paroozing just 2 previous issues i quickly purchased a subscription to have this mind-blowing inspiration bullet pointed at my head regularly.

also, after about a 2 year hiatus, i’ve subscribed to juxtapoz magazine again.
another inspiration packed magazine, i’ve been buying juxtapoz since the beginning it seems…or at least pretty damn close to the beginning of its run. its had a few moments when i thought it was a little too chock full of advertisements, or a little to up the ass of this gallery or that…and a little too up the slightly pretentious ass of the california lowbrow art world….but ya know, people gotta pay the bills, the founder of the mag resides in ye old california and hence is knee deep in the scene there…..so i’ve gotten over some of the little things that piss me off…why? …well, because that crazy magazine never fails to give me an idea for a painting or a photo or something. this is priceless: the ability to inspire another person to do something…practically magical. so get over the little things that piss me off occasionally and just enjoy the magazine. not to mention, my subscription came with a t-shirt and it fits like a soft cotton charm.
