There’s just something wonderful about this concept. In this day and age I long for a more simple life, I’ll not lie to you.  Every high paying, tech style job I’ve taken is run by a self absorbed greedy ignoramus solely obsessed with driving their employees to work as if they were machines, living breathing extensions of their computers, their metrics, their productivity ratings, etc. Don’t have an opinion on right or wrong that deviates from the employee handbook or the mundane monthly meeting rhetoric. Don’t frown. Keep on smiling. Take a pay cut and keep that team-player attitude at all times.

And now the new face of the “Rebounding American Economy” is one employee doing the job of the 5 that were laid off.  Instead of a customer service team of 4 or 5….it’s really 1 person and an answering machine struggling to give the illusion that you’re calling a Call Center and 45 anxious bored geniuses await to fulfill your every whim and wish.

In the 80′s we grew up thinking computers would make life easier and possibly even equate to a few less hours spent working. Yet all I’ve discovered is the computer’s speed has lead employers to push their employees to move at unrealistic speeds, multi-tasking an unrealistic number of duties across multiple platforms of bullshit…while getting paid far less that what is adequate.  I must say I tire of being the ever smiling machine, the perfectly efficient half-human for the benefit of greedy millionaires… and I think I shall soon have to move to a Pixxxie Cottage nestled in a quiet wood with low bills, low rent and no traffic.

….And this little documentary really makes me look in the mirror and wonder about the next leg of my up and coming life experiences and if my dream of living a more simple, self sustained, eco-friendly life is actually something I can turn into a reality as I amass more and more creative skills that seem to beg for me to unchain myself from the 9-5 hamster wheel of working hard to make someone else a millionaire.
